The Cab – Whisper War

The Cab - Whisper WarThe Cab is another band on the Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen record label straight out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Don’t confuse them with labelmates Panic at the Disco though. They find themselves on the opposite end of the spectrum from their showy counterparts.

The Cab was originally started by singer Alex DeLeon and bass player Cash Colligan. Later additions would include Alex Johnson on the drums and Alex Marshall on the piano and guitar, occasionally. Ian Crawford replaced Paul Garcia as guitarist shortly after the band was signed to Decaydance in May of 2007 as the bands members were graduating from high school. Talk about an amazing graduation present right?

The Cab has gotten a lot of attention rather quickly: they were #75 on Blender‘s “Top 100 Hot Report” in September 2007, and that was 8 months before they’d even released a record! They also landed themselves a stage space on South By Southwest 2008 and The Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour, along side Metro Station, We The Kings, and Cobra Starship, which helped greatly to gather them up a good sized following before the late April 2008 release of their first record Whisper War.

Whisper War debuted at #108 the first week of sales but landed itself the #1 Top Heatseeker position by Billboard, just another accomplishment already under their belt when most of the band members haven’t been out of high school for but barely a year.

It took me a few days to really get into listening to their CD, I won’t lie about that, but I haven’t stopped listening to it since the first listen and I even went so far as to acquire myself their EP and The Cab’s demos. They’ve got the catchiness that you put side by side when you hear someone talk about anyone associated with Fueled By Ramen, but in my opinion they’ve got a little extra spark, almost if you wanted to add a piano to Paramore back during their first album. Decaydance, aside from Panic at the Disco’s new disc, is definitely not disappointing with this year’s releases.

I definitely would recommend buying this CD, and if you can find the EP and their demos, I honestly suggest getting those as well.
