Modded pop performers the French Kicks put on a soft, soulful performance at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Playing a sound that has always been uniquely their own, the band glittered out their songs with rich emotion and skipping rhythms that so define their music.
The set covered tracks from prior releases as well as from recent album Swimming. All the fan favorites were present and accounted for: “One More Time,” “Oh Fine,” “Better Time” and “Trial of The Century.” The latter of which saw lead singer Nick Stumpf take a seat at the keyboard, pressing out the light piano notes that nostalgically emulsifies the song, as the crowd swayed and sung a long.
The star of the evening, as on all their retro-tinged material, was Stump’s soft, crooning vocals that stand out unlike any other singer today. The light, airiness of his falsetto meshed with the mood lighting created for a truly great show.
