International Talk Like A Pirate Day

For whatever reason, September 19th marks International Talk Like a Pirate Day. In 1995, Talk Like A Pirate Day creators John Baur and Mark Summers (“Double Dare” host?!) we playing racquetball in an effort to get healthy and started encouraging each other in pirate slang. The date is all started was June 6th, but seeing as June 6th marks the anniversary of World War II’s D-Day, they couldn’t very well use that date.

The story goes that Mark decided September 19th was a good day because he remembered it for being his [now ex-] wife’s birthday, and it wasn’t any other major holiday. Talk Like  A Pirate Day was born. You can learn more here, if you’re so inclined.

To celebrate, have a listen to a related track from Lambchop’s forthcoming release OH (ohio), which drops October 7th.
