Brave Citizens – Revolutions EP

California easy on the eyes rock duo Brave Citizens had released two albums and toured extensively with their first band, Halfway to Nowhere, before ever getting together to create the Revolutions EP under the new moniker. Andrew Capra (vocals, guitar) and Adam Bialik (guitar, keys, backing vocals) began creating tunes for the 4 song EP by sending laptop demos back and forth, which would eventually grow into the 2007 released EP.

The disc begins in a big way with “The Same Way.” It’s a high energy and extremely dynamic tune that fits beautifully within the current California pop rock scene, yet maintains originality thanks to Capra’s strong vocal, the band’s stellar musicianship and great production value. “How Much Longer?” follows with a slower and heavier sound, though stays consistently fluid throughout.

Track 3, “All or Not,” again opens big with huge drums and harmonic riffs before slowing down and taking on a heavy and melodic sound. Revolutions ends with the smooth and mellow “Young,” which borders on being a ballad but thankfully doesn’t quite make it there.

Capra and Bialik wouldn’t suffer with some experimentation and thinking outside the pop rock box, but Brave Citizens is sure to go places with their huge sound. They’ve got a great beginning with the dynamic Revolutions EP and should only be ahead to great things to come. You can catch the pair with touring bassist Jarred Dooley and touring drummer John Shebalin at select California dates and for a Warped Tour stint through the Southwest on the Kevin Says Stage.
